Meet Mayor G

Mayor Gierisch is a lifelong resident of Roanoke, born and raised in the community he deeply cherishes. His commitment to serving the community where he grew up is a driving force in his life. He and his wife, who were married in 1987, have raised their two children in Roanoke. His journey in public service began when he was invited by then-Mayor John "Toots" Tidwell to serve as Chairman of the Zoning Board of Adjustments. This role provided him with valuable insights into city government. In 1995, Mayor Gierisch made a successful bid for the Roanoke City Council, further deepening his understanding and service to the community. Encouraged by the citizens, he ran for mayor in 2005 and was elected. Having now served seven terms as mayor, he continues to dedicate himself to the positive growth of the city and humbly seeks re-election to maintain this momentum.
